Try, try again
Purely because I was feeling guilty about entering a competition for a game I didn’t really enjoy, I gave Lord of the Rings a quick whirl today. And boy, I tell you, I went in with an open mind and it really did still suck. It’s just missing something… something… to make it… um… fun.
Running around as a wonderfully rendered Dwarf, in what can only be described as beautiful scenery, I felt no passion, no “damn this is fun“. The first quest in Warcraft is to kill some wolves. In LOTRO it’s to kill some cave monsters. Same-same.
But it’s not same-same. It’s incredibly different. LOTR is the beautiful girl in your office. When she smiles, it’s like sunlight but when you have to talk to her, let alone work with her, it’s like dealing with a brick. Warcraft is the quirky girl. She’s kinda cute, dresses a little left of centre and can maintain your interest for hours with her charm and ways.
So, metaphors aside, I maintain my view: Playing LOTRO is like chewing cardboard, with less taste. Next up, Age of Conan where I will be playing a human (no f’in Dwarves, thanks Rob!) Demonologist. Yep, I’m giving the priesthood a break.
